CFP®, CDFA®, ChFC®, CLU®, and RICP®
Financial Consultant, TOP Planning
Ashok Ramji is a lifelong learner who wants the best for his clients. He worked for many years in the investment management field and realized he didn't know much about either estate or legacy planning when a career change became necessary. This has led him to undertake many courses of study and earn a variety of certifications, including the CFP®, CDFA®, ChFC®, CLU®, and RICP®.
Even with all these credentials he still felt he was missing a piece a pivotal piece to serve his clients. Concerned that his detailed questions might be missing the bigger picture across the silos, Mr. Ramji decided to pursue his Retirement Management Advisor® (RMA®) certification.
He wanted to learn more about Social Security and Medicare, retirement income planning and all of the other complex issues people face as they enter retirement. The RMA® program covers all of these topics and more, typically taking 3 months to complete. Ramji attended an introduction to RMA® certification webinar on a Friday, applied on the following Monday and got straight to work, finishing the program in record time - 30 days.
“All of a sudden things clicked,” Mr. Ramji said, explaining that all of the theoretical knowledge suddenly made sense and he was able to start utilizing this information with his clients on day one. “There wasn’t a cohesive system that I felt was in place so that I could systematically work with retirees. That’s what I found with the RMA program and that level of understanding.”
In addition to the practical knowledge he gained, including the procedural prudence road map and the household balance sheet, Mr. Ramji also gained a community of fellow professionals who also earned their RMA® certifications and are putting the skills into practice.
“Here are other people who are really trying to do the best for our clients and we can brainstorm,” Mr. Ramji realized. “I can implement the CFP® program, I can implement the procedural prudence road map. I know exactly where I go with each client, I don’t have that confusion anymore.”
“There’s more confidence post-RMA® certification. It helps the clients, it helps me,” he said. “The RMA® curriculum provides a framework for looking at things truly across the silos.”
Equally as important, Mr. Ramji can use these insights to help clients who are facing the same challenges.
“Having that experience, I am able to now help make planning a positive experience for someone else,” he said.
