James Macey is a Senior Investment Strategist for BNY Mellon Investment Management. In this role, Mr. Macey is responsible for outcome-oriented investment solutions, risk management, portfolio construction, manager due diligence and macroecomic research.

Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Mr. Macey served as Director of Multi-Asset Portfolio Management at Foresters Financial where he had responsibility for the firm’s fee-based wrap advisory program, asset allocation and manager selection. Previously, he worked at Goldman Sachs Asset Management as a Lead Portfolio Manager and at both Franklin Templeton and Allianz Global Investors as a Portfolio Manager where he managed Multi-Asset mutual funds, model portfolios and designed bespoke institutional customized solutions, and at Lehman Brothers as an Equity Research Analyst.

Mr. Macey earned a Master in Science, Astrophysics (Honors) from University College London. He is a CFA Charterholder, a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Charterholder, holds the Professional Risk Manager designation, is a member of the CFA Society New York and has 19 years of industry experience.

Preconference #1: Myths and Realities of Portfolio Construction

The responsibilities of investment advisors have increased and broadened and this has introduced new challenges and pressures. This session will focus on setting objective-based goals and relevant benchmarks to address best practices in portfolio construction, diversification and manager selection.
