November 30, 2023
9:20 - 10:10 a.m.

For many financial advisors, it’s easy to avoid conversations about taxes with clients because they are reminded so often that they are not tax professionals. But tax management is one area where advisors can provide a more individualized level of service to clients—and avoiding these conversations may mean missing out on opportunities to improve a client’s tax situation. In this session, David Gordon and Steve Siegel discuss three underutilized tax strategies that can help solve common tax problems and enhance the level of personalized services being offered by advisors.

Learning Objectives:
  • Discover strategies to effectively unlock the potential of highly appreciated assets through upstream gifting
  • Learn the pros and cons of gifting appreciated assets, such as stocks, real estate or artwork up the family tree and how you can implement this new technique
  • Evaluate resetting cost basis by selling appreciated stock when you have unused losses and immediately repurchasing the same stock at a higher price
  • Understand the income tax rules for non-qualified stock options
  • Discover the benefits of exercising deep-in-the-money non-qualified stock options for shares (net share settlement) rather than taking cash
