Managing Director / Global Lead for Technology & Innovation, Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA)
Masterclass 3:The Future of Energy: Evolution, Disruption, and Revolution
What if? Why not? So what?
These are just a few questions Peter Durante, Managing Director and Global Lead for Technology & Innovation for Macquarie Asset Management (MAM), and his team ask themselves as they are developing business critical views on key technology themes to be shared across Macquarie. In this session, Durante will provide an overview of how Macquarie views technological innovation and his team’s processes and frameworks. The session will end with a case study from the “energy transition” – a transformation of the global energy sector from fossil-based systems of energy production and consumption to renewable energy sources.
Peter Durante is the global lead for technology & innovation (T&I) within Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA), where he coordinates the work of MIRA’s asset management and origination teams in identifying and applying emerging technologies that impact the operational, commercial, and environmental performance of existing and future portfolio assets. The T&I team tracks more than 100 technologies and business model innovations, across energy, transport, data/digitalization, artificial intelligence, telecoms, agriculture, manufacturing, robotics, waste, water, and fintech. Previously, Durante spent more than 18 years in infrastructure, oil and gas, renewable energy, and transportation. He started his career at Shell where he worked across the downstream value chain including supply management, procurement, strategy, risk management, and commodities trading. Durante earned an Executive MBA from the University of Oxford, an MSc in finance and financial law from SOAS (University of London), an MA in international relations from the University of Kent, and a BA in history from Arizona State University.
