The Versatile Asset

PORTFOLIO CONSTRUCTION WITH PRIVATE CREDIT
Admin

Asset allocation becomes more nuanced—and more consequential—when alternative investments enter the equation. For advisors considering private credit, the challenge isn’t whether the asset class has attractive features, but how to evaluate its real-world impact on client portfolios after fees, sourcing decisions, vehicle structure, and client-specific goals are taken into account. This article takes an advisor-centric approach to asset allocation, using a familiar starting point—the traditional 60/40 portfolio anchored by the S&P 500 and the Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate—to explore how direct lending can address missing exposures. By examining private credit’s floating-rate structure, inflation sensitivity tied to the Consumer Price Index, and diversification benefits relative to public markets, the analysis highlights why private direct lending may represent an underutilized tool for improving portfolio resilience—when implemented with rigor and realism.
