General Session 6: Secure Act, IRA Beneficiaries and the New 10-Year Rule
The Secure Act of 2019 changed the way retirement accounts are funded, distributed and passed to the next generation. This session will go through the key provisions of the act and review ways an account owner and beneficiary can mitigate the impact of the new 10-year distribution rule.
Timothy M. Steffen joined Baird & Co. in 1999. His areas of expertise include meeting with clients and prospects to discuss their financial and estate planning needs and serving as an income tax specialist for Baird’s financial advisors. Steffen also supports financial advisors in a marketing and training capacity, helping them understand the benefits of using financial planning in their business and educating them on planning techniques. Prior to joining Baird, Steffen worked in Arthur Anderson’s Private Client Services group where he specialized in tax and financial planning. His clients included corporate executives, business owners, and families. Steffen earned his BS in accounting from the University of Illinois in 1991. He is a Certified Public Accountant/Personal Financial Specialist, a Certified Financial Planner™ professional, and a member of the American and Wisconsin Institutes of CPAs and the Financial Planning Association. Steffen has served as a subject matter expert and source for the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee Business Journal, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Detroit Free Press, Financial Planning magazine, businessweek.com, a variety of technology publications, and various local television stations and newspapers. In addition, he has spoken to numerous client and professional groups about tax and financial planning topics.
